HANES SOCK DRIVE 2025

Near the end of last year, With Actions and in Truth, Inc. received an offer to renew its partnership with HanesBrand for their 2025 Hanes Sock Drive. Upon acceptance, we were given an in-kind donation of 1,000 pairs of socks to support those who are homeless or facing housing insecurity (i.e. living in shelters).

Throughout December 2025 and early last month, we were able to complete our distribution; to homeless individuals in midtown Manhattan and southeast Queens, and to a few Queens-based shelters. Per the latter, most of my contacts from 2020, 2021 and last year (the three years we partnered with Hanes) still worked there, and it was a pleasure to re-connect with them. First up was J-CAP and their Recreational Specialist, Ray Perez. He is always a pleasure to deal with because he takes care of business (i.e., eagerly taking a photo with the socks and getting me the acknowledgement letter needed to document everything for Hanes) in rapid-fire time. Thus, it was good to be able to provide them with 225 pairs of men’s socks.

Next up was the Springfield Gardens Family Inn. We had distributed sandwich packages at this family shelter going back to the fall of 2015. When Covid hit in early March 2020, they put a halt to allowing outside entities to bring in food. However, they would accept clothing. The evening of Christmas Eve, we left them with nearly 400 pairs of women’s, men’s and children’s socks.

Unfortunately, one family shelter we had previously worked with was going through something of a personnel upheaval and had to pass. That truly saddened me, as they had a special place in my heart going back to 2016. Once I shook off my disappointment, I immediately reached out to Alfredo “Freddy” Matthews, the Assistant Vice President at Acacia Network, a community-based organization with ties in Queens. He was very instrumental in putting us in touch with some Jamaica, Queens-based hotels-turned-shelters a few years ago. “Bro, I recently received a donation of socks from Hanes and am hoping you can put me onto a family shelter in Queens; preferably in the Jamaica area.” One or two phone calls later, we were in touch with the Gate Hotel family shelter near JFK airport, and were able to deliver nearly 400 pairs of socks to them in mid-January.

Having done so privately, I would like to publicly thank HanesBrands, Inc. for the honor to partner with them for their 2025 Hanes Sock Drive. It is my hope that we can work with them again near the end of this year.
